Our Councils

Overview

Our councils represent ParagonsDAO’s delegated governance. $PDT holders are responsible for voting in council members to act in the best interests of the community. The councils each have the authority to make decisions within their scope, and $PDT holders show their support (or lack of it) through voting representatives into (and out of) the councils.

All councils follow the same six-month epoch lengths, and are compensated with 10,000 $PDT/month payable at the end of each term.

Councils

Paragons Council

The Paragons Council is our key governing council responsible for discussing, debating implications and making decisions on ParagonsDAO Improvement Proposals (PDIPs) and ParagonsDAO Configuration Change Proposal (PCCPs). In addition, the Paragons Council is responsible for seeking budget approval for any changes with the Treasury Council and initiating execution with the Core Contributor Council.

It consists of 7 elected individuals who serve throughout an epoch. It was established via PDIP 2 - The Paragons Council; delegated voting power for $PDT Holders.

Elections and process

Elections are integral to ParagonsDAO’s governance process. To prevent stagnant governance, an election is held each epoch in which $PDT holders can vote for Paragons Council and Treasury Council members. The Core Contributor Council is voted by Core Contributors, and managed separately.

Self-nomination

After elections are announced (at least 2 weeks before the nomination period), individuals who want to run for a council seat must self-nominate in the #nominations channel (which will open after elections are announced) on Discord by completing the information laid out in that channel (including a few simple questions). The self-nomination period lasts two weeks.

A few considerations:

  • Nominations by other people will not be accepted.
  • Candidates must answer the questions
  • Candidates who are currently Council Members must also complete a Self-Assessment and Council Assessment to be eligible to run for another epoch (also shared in the #nominations channel)
  • Candidates must respect all communicated deadlines to be eligible

Voting

The voting period lasts for two weeks, and begins one day following the nomination period closing.

The amount of $PDT a voter has at the beginning of a voting period determines their voting power, and they can spread their votes across as many or as few candidates as they wish (the less candidates a holder votes for, the more concentrated their voting power) for each the Paragons Council and Treasury Council elections. Votes can be changed at any time until the end of the voting period.

All council elections are hosted on the ParagonsDAO Snapshot space.

If there are not enough candidates to warrant an election for a council, a vote will not be held for that council and all eligible nominees will pass by default.

Council Inauguration

After the voting results are finalized, new council members will be announced to the community. Council members will be added to their respective multisig wallet, and receive a special NFT that allows them to vote in the respective council’s Snapshot space.
